Fermentation, Fun-damentals is a hands-on workshop exploring fermentation as a meeting point between food, art and cultural relevance.

Working with young people, the workshop transformed leftover and surplus vegetables into fermented foods, introducing participants to the simple processes through which microorganisms can preserve, transform and extend the life of food.

Participants began by working with a collection of leftover vegetables, preparing them for fermentation and learning the fundamentals of how to create an environment where beneficial microbes can thrive. Alongside the food-making, they explored the visual language of food preservation.

Vegetable arrangments were scanned and transformed into stickers, creating a set of playful labels that documented the ingredients and fermentation recipes. The stickers became both practical instructions and visual records of the process.
