jPlayte are a gastro-architect duo who use local food as a tool for collective healing. Their work is rooted in community—creating site-specific experiences that explore the intersection between art, architecture, and the politics of food.

Founded by Niyanta Sharma, an artist and architectural designer with Indian heritage, and Wesley Hauler-Winterford, a nutritionist and cook with Māori heritage. Together, Playte explores the joy of gastronomy

House of Annetta
mum’s dahl, okra curry, naan, mixed pickles

Hosted by House of Annetta in Whitechapel, this project explored the idea of home through food, memory and cultural heritage. An edible installation inspired by family recipes passed down through generations, drawing on the flavours, ingredients and traditions of South Asian cooking.

Situated in an area with a rich South Asian history, the work paid homage to the communities and cultural identities that have shaped Whitechapel. Through food as both material and medium, the installation explored how recipes carry stories across borders, connecting people to places, histories and loved ones. It invited guests to consider home not simply as a physical place, but something carried, remembered and shared.
